Met Office warns of further snow and ice across the UK as bitterly cold temperatures returnBritain was braced for further travel disruption as the "mini beast from the east" was set to bring up to 25cm of snow to parts of the UK. The Met Office issued warnings for more snow and ice as well as bitterly cold temperatures that will feel as low as -10C. The heaviest snow showers are expected across south-western areas, but conditions will ease throughout the day and there could be sunshine in some areas. Greater Manchester police's traffic unit said conditions were "bleak" on the trans-Pennine route, with a video showing blizzards. Richard Leonard, Highways England's head of road safety, said: "Our gritter drivers will be out treating our roads around the clock but it is still important to drive to the conditions when snow is forecast.

Severe weather has caused travel disruption in parts of the UK as a wintry snap dubbed the "mini beast from the East" tightens its grip. Road, rail and air travel have been affected by snow and ice and airports including Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted have urged travellers to check flight information before travelling. The Met Office has issued weather warnings for north-west England, Yorkshire, the Midlands, London and south-east England. Snowploughs have been dispatched to the M62 after the weather brought traffic to standstill. A number of train companies have warned of possible service disruptions, including on CrossCountry, Gatwick Express, Great Northern, Heathrow Connect, Southern and Thameslink services.
